WINROCK TOWN CENTER
The new Winrock Town Center will be a premier, modern large-scale mixed-use infill development for Albuquerque, New Mexico, including a 16-screen IMAX movie theater as the major anchor supported by retail, entertainment and restaurants.
Surroundings was the landscape architecture team responsible for the master planning and initial schematic design of the entrance paseos and central pedestrian plaza that unifies the theater and new retail together through an engaging outdoor environment. The entrance paseos are designed as dense groves of Vitex trees that create a shaded respite from the hot sun and mimic the qualities of the Rio Grande Bosque. In the central plaza space, a Rio Grande inspired water feature that is proposed to utilize graywater from the movie theater, will become an oasis for shoppers to sit, eat, people-watch, and play.
Winrock will be both a local and regional destination where shoppers, visitors and residents can combine shopping, convenience, active sports, entertainment, and leisure. Ultimately, visitors and locals will have memorable shopping and recreational experiences through beautiful outdoor environments, and residents will have a variety of housing and lifestyle choices, and Albuquerque will have a premier gathering place.
