NAVA ADE NORTH COMMUNITY PARK
Nava Ade North Park is the culmination of a neighborhood initiative to create a green center for its community. After an engaged community design process, Surroundings was retained by the City of Santa Fe to bring it to fruition.
The plan is built upon the community’s desire to enhance the naturalized landscape that had occurred on the site after years of benign neglect, while carrying forward appropriate, simple to maintain, community spaces for shade, rest, picnics, and play along natural boulders and small playground equipment.
The primary gathering spaces are defined and inspired by New Mexico style adobe walls and a large shady portal. These spaces frame mainly passive activity for the park. Native grass and wildflower meadows were enhanced or created throughout the park to preserve the quality and sense of the high desert ecosystem. Curb cuts from the surrounding roadways were created to provide additional water benefit to the plantings in the park.
