MONTECILLO GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE MASTER PLAN
Montecillo is a large scale, mixed use, commercial and single family housing development located in El Paso, Texas on significant slopes running toward Interstate 10. Our team was asked to explore creative stormwater strategies throughout the development to reduce large, downstream stormwater run-off.
The Green Infrastructure Master Plan we developed for EPT Communities provides guidance on the planning of green infrastructure and low impact development (LID) features within the Montecillo community as an alternative means to manage large volumes stormwater at localized levels. Through these practices, the Montecillo community may maximize development potential, remediate negative impacts of current stormwater management practices, protect natural buffers and enhance vegetated features to create recreation opportunities and community assets. The success of LID at Montecillo is dependent on a holistic systemic planning approach and long term maintenance to achieve effective application and operation of these stormwater mitigating features.
